Queenstown is known for being the adventure capital of New Zealand. People come here from all over the world to experience the many different types of adventures that are offered in this area. Our students were able to pick and choose from a number of these activities.
Luge Ride: Some students rode up the gondola and then took the luge ride down the mountain. This is a thrilling, gravity fuelled ride on a speedy luge cart. The skyline luge is 1.6km long. Students really enjoyed these fun filled rides and seeing the picturesque scenery as they rode the carts on the way down.
Bungee Jump: This is an incredible 43 metre jump from the Kawarau Bridge. It is an 8 second free fall. Students had the option of whether they wanted to bob above the water, touch the water or be fully immersed in the water. Most chose to bob above the water. Some students even took a second jump, “backwards”!! What an amazing experience for all participants.
Jet Boat: Everyone got to ride in the jet boat as it skimmed the river’s edge at exhilarating speeds of up to 90 km/h. Our skilled driver was able to weave through the spectacular scenery, skim the shallows of the river and on route did several 360 degree spins. We were returned to shore safe and sound, although a little bit wet. What an adrenalin rush!
Sky Diving: Not to be out done, many students decided to go ski diving. Two of our students did the dive from 15,000ft and five others choose to dive from 12,000ft. It takes a lot of courage to do this. You step out of that aircraft door and for some 60 seconds you free fall at 200km/hour. The personal challenge is huge! Once the students were safely on the ground they all said what a great experience this was and a true highlight of their program.
