Our Adventure has Ended!
Although our adventures in Australia and New Zealand have come to an end, our memories will last a lifetime. There are many tales to tell and I am sure that there will be many conversations within families and between friends discussing all of the many wonderful experiences that were had over the past five weeks. It is unfortunate that because of the COVID-19 Virus, the semester had to end sooner than expected. Students will continue to work via internet with their teachers to complete their courses for the semester.
From Tutukaka, New Zealand, to Airlie Beach, Australia, to Brisbane, Australia and then back to New Zealand once again to visit Queenstown and Rotorua, students had many wondrous moments and enjoyed experiences of a lifetime. Students were asked what their favourite experiences were. A wide range of responses included: sky diving in Queenstown, bungee jumping in Queenstown, visiting the Koalas in Australia, snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef, sea kayaking, learning to surf, visiting the Hobbiton Movie Set near Rotorua, enjoying the spectacular scenery throughout New Zealand, visiting Milford Sound, visiting the Abbey Caves, and doing the night walk in the Redwood Forest. One of the favourite activities was when our group went on “The Perfect Day” boat adventure and enjoyed snorkeling and other water sports in this perfect New Zealand setting. In truth, there were so many great experiences, that it is really hard to say which one was the best. It was also wonderful to see students make new friends and begin to establish life long connections with each other. We developed into one large family group and I know everyone will miss each other. As we said our goodbyes at the airport, promises to keep in touch and visit each other were made.
A great big thanks to Blyth Academy Global High School for making this trip of a lifetime possible for our group. We have all learned so much from each other and from the countries that we have visited. Students will enter the next phase of their educational journeys with an appreciation for travel, different cultures, a better sense of budgeting, and a better sense of how to live in close proximity to a group of people with both similar and dissimilar backgrounds and aspirations. It has been simply amazing to watch the “aha” moments and pure joy and delight on students’ faces over the past five weeks. A remarkable journey for everyone!
