Global High School 2016-17 Term 3:

Welcome to ‘Reefworld’

What a week we’ve had in the Whitsundays! It was a week that has flown by so quickly. As we prepare to leave our new home in Airlie Beach, we will give our thanks to the incredible staff at Colonial Palms Motor Inn. They warmly welcomed us to their beautiful grounds (with two pools and lush gardens!) from the moment we arrived. Owner John and his team of family members were generous and friendly day in and day out. We were spoiled with delicious gourmet dinners, and a safe place to call our home. We thank everyone at this establishment for an unforgettable week. I know that I will miss the bottomless coffee all day long 😉

Something worth mentioning is the Great Barrier Reef excursion we went on this past Sunday. I overheard the following multiple times throughout the day: “This is just the best day ever!” And I don’t doubt it! The boat ride to the reef was a quick 3 hours with coffee and snacks and a lot of information provided about the endless activities going on at “Reefworld”. Upon arrival, we snorkeled, went scuba diving (twice!), got relaxing massages, took a ride on the semi submersible boat (which allowed you to see the reef underwater without actually having to get wet), or simply caught some rays on the sundeck while eating prawns, veggies, and other healthy foods from our large buffet lunch.

I am so impressed by the energy levels and willingness of our students to engage in such adventurous activities. They especially couldn’t stop talking about the diving experience (pics on vidigami!). It was like another planet underwater: the sea turtles, the friendly Humpback Wrasse, the giant clams that responded to our shadows with their natural defence mechanisms, the corals that changed colours upon touching them, and …well, I can go on and on. Basically speaking, it was an incredible day for everyone.

I post this blog as our teachers and students are in classes, writing quizzes, and working on assignments before we depart for Brisbane in a couple of hours. We are saying goodbye to Airlie Beach, and are very excited for the next adventure in Brisbane!

We’ll talk soon,
