Entering the Cloud – Monteverde:
Travel Journal Term 4 2017
PURA VIDA! Hi everyone. We are here in beautiful Monteverde, about to eat breakfast and pack up our things for our transfer to Arenal. We moved to Costa Rica via private bus on Sunday, from San Juan Del Sur, and we all got a kick out of rolling our luggage to the border and crossing by foot!
A handful of hours later, and a steep drive up into the clouds, we arrived at our new haven: Monteverde.
How do we love Monteverde? Let me count the ways: lush forests, tranquil environment, genuine people, unique wildlife, and the saying of all sayings: Pura Vida! We literally fell in love with Monteverde at first site.
In the past two days we’ve hiked through the Children’s Eternal Rainforest AND the Cloud Forest. Led by our knowledgeable ‘Tico’ guide, Giuliano, we found ourselves surrounded by trees, butterflies, birds, tarantulas (don’t worry they were far away), frogs, and more! It is beautiful here. The students are so happy and have such a sense of adventure and exploration that I admire.
Yesterday was another fantastic day. For all you coffee lovers out there, you will enjoy the fact that we did a blind coffee tasting on a proper Costa Rican plantation! This was no simple plantation, though. Rather, it was a 42-hectare farm filled with coffee, fruits, and animals that our students loved so very much. Life Monteverde is the organization – an absolutely incredible association that prides itself on educating locals and tourists on sustainability and nature conservation.
Now we leave for Arenal – a paradise known for its looming volcano and stunning waterfalls.
