STUDY ABROAD IN CENTRAL & SOUTH AMERICA
About Term Four
From the rainforests of Costa Rica to the breath-taking vistas of Peru, South and Central America will captivate your imagination and challenge your perceptions. During Term Four of Global High School, you’ll experience new heights, new foods, new languages, and new friends.
We will begin our adventure in Costa Rica’s Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, where students will learn about cloud forest ecology and take a guided night hike through the reserve. Nearby, we’ll visit Arenal Volcano National Park to learn about the country’s most active volcano, and relax in hot springs before heading to Playas del Coco, a friendly and lively place where tourists easily mix with locals and other travellers.
Say adios to Costa Rica and head south to Ecuador, starting with a stop in Puembo to study in the public parks and squares and wander the local markets filled with foods and treasures. We then head into the Amazon basin to experience a wildlife adventure of a lifetime — with thousands of species of plants, animals, fish, and insects. Move to the northern town of Otavalo to get the opportunity to browse the Otavalo Market, known for its vibrant, Ecuadorian woven products, which can be bartered and brought home as souvenirs of your incredible time studying abroad.
Our adventure continues in Peru, a country world-renowned for its ancient archaeological sites, including the famed Machu Picchu, and for its vibrant culture. Travel through the Sacred Valley to the breathtaking site of Machu Picchu, hike amid a cloud forest and stone cliffs, and explore the history of Incan civilization. In the lively city of Cusco in the southern Andes, immerse yourself and take it all in before final exams and a celebration of your unforgettable year abroad with a farewell banquet.
