Semester One
Europe + Australia & New Zealand
STUDY ABROAD IN EUROPE + AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND
About Semester One
Gaze upon great works of art and world-famous landmarks, visit castles and palaces, and see the seat of the Roman Empire with your own eyes. During Term One of Global High School, you’ll experience the best culture and history Europe has to offer.
Term One begins in ancient Rome. Visit the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, and marvel at the grandeur of the ancient Coliseum before heading into the winding streets of Florence to explore the birthplace of the Renaissance. Tour the Florence Cathedral and visit the David before departing south to Spain. As you wander through the beautiful quarters of Barcelona, become immersed in Catalan language, culture, and cuisine. Sun yourself at the glamorous Sitges Beach and be awestruck by examples of Antoni Gaudí’s architecture, including the Sagrada Família and Park Güell. Make the journey to Madrid to study the riches of the Prado Museum and the Royal Palace in the heart of Spain’s Capital city.
The cultural tour of Europe continues in Paris, the city of lights. Take part in a study group under the Eiffel Tower before heading across the channel to England. London is where you will acclimate with British culture, say hello to Big Ben and walk the London Bridge before retreating to the English countryside. Rejuvenate in Wiltshire during your stay in student residence at the historic Stonar School. Complete your studies on campus surrounded by 80 acres of parkland and gardens. Spend your free time swimming, playing tennis, visiting the stables or heading into the local town of Bath to tour the historic Great Baths of Roman Britain. Become accustom to the country life before closing the chapter on this leg of your global study abroad adventure.
Boomerangs, didgeridoos, kangaroos and kiwis await you on the other side of the globe. Discover the land down under’s unique wildlife and eco-systems, visit natural wonders, and ride the waves before hopping over to New Zealand’s adventures and astounding landscapes. In Term Two, you’ll experience sand, surf, sun and smiles.
Start off in Sydney, Australia. Tour Darling Harbour and see the Harbour Bridge and Opera House, and enjoy a day at one of the city’s many beaches, including the hip Bondi Beach, or take a coastal walk. Head north to the Whitsunday Coast lined with sublime beaches, perfect for sun and relaxation. While here, sail to the Great Barrier Reef to discover its aquatic life before travelling down the east coast to study in Brisbane, a city that offers a taste of hipster cool with laid-back cafés, vintage shopping, and an artistic vibe. Visit the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary to meet koalas, feed kangaroos, and learn about unique Australian wildlife.
A marvel of geography, New Zealand offers dramatic landscapes that provided the backdrop for the Lord of the Rings films—no CGI needed here! Known as the adventure capital of the world, Queenstown is a place for adventurers and thrill-seekers. Here, we’ll blend study with outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, Frisbee and many more.
Stop in Rotorua, known for its geothermal activity, the area features numerous geysers and hot mud pools, before heading to the final stop in Auckland. This city offers a remarkable range of scenery, where everyone lives within half an hour of beautiful beaches, hiking trails and enchanting islands. It’s a great environment to rest, study and recalibrate before heading home.
