2018/2019 Term Four: Central & South America

Term Four Itinerary

Monteverde • Arenal • Guanacaste Coast • Lima • Sacred Valley • Cusco

From the rainforests of Costa Rica to the breath-taking vistas of Peru, South and Central America will captivate your imagination and challenge your perceptions. During Term Four of Global High School, you’ll experience new heights, new foods, new languages, and new friends.

We will begin our adventure in Costa Rica. The Guanacaste Region of Costa Rica has a dry tropical climate with a varied landscape. White sand beaches line the coast, and to the east the Guanacaste Mountains showcase national parks and volcanoes – the perfect location to zip line through the rainforest.

Moving inland, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is home to thousands of species of plants and animals. Learn about cloud forest ecology and take a guided night hike through the reserve. Nearby, visit Arenal Volcano National Park to learn about the country’s most active volcano, and relax in the area’s hot springs before saying goodbye to Costa Rica and heading south to Peru, a country world-renowned for its ancient archaeological sites, including the famed Machu Picchu, and for its vibrant culture.

Travel through the Sacred Valley to the breathtaking site of Machu Picchu, hike amid a cloud forest and stone cliffs, and explore the history of Incan civilization. In the the lively city of Cusco in the southern Andes, become acquainted with the area’s culture and history. A startling contrast of bustling lively markets within an ancient city, Cusco was the capital of the Inca Empire, and reflects its rich history with illuminating museums, striking architecture, and Inca ruins. Immerse yourself and take it all in before final exams and a celebration of your unforgettable year abroad with a farewell banquet.
