2017-18 Semester 2

Students being Term 3 arriving in the lively city of Sydney at the height of the southern hemisphere summer, where they will enjoy the classic sights of the Opera House and the harbour on a walking tour.  One of the highlights of this term will be the Whitsunday Coast, where students will take a once-in-a-lifetime day trip to the Great Barrier Reef.

Students will love Brisbane’s mix of arts, culture, and nature. Enjoy classes beside the river and in the beautiful parkland of this lovely city. Our final destination on the South Island is Dunedin, where we will be exposed to the beautiful architecture of the First Church of Otago, St. Paul’s Cathedral and the Dunedin Railway Station.

Next we will explore Queenstown, the adventure capital of the world. Surrounded by mountains, glaciers, and lakes, we will spend our time exploring and immersing ourselves in this invigorating community. We will end our term in the city of Auckland, where we will hike to the top of a volcano for panoramic city views and visit Auckland Art Gallery Toi o T?maki. Before saying our goodbyes, we will enjoy a delicious final banquet.

We begin Term 4 in Nicaragua, whose coastline, culture and natural splendor continue to inspire and amaze visitors. In Granada, we’ll admire the colonial architecture and soak up the buzz of this lively city. Ometepe Island is a nature lover’s paradise and an adventurer’s dream. We’ll hike on a volcano and learn how plants and animals have adapted in this unique ecosystem.  In the seaside town of San Juan del Sur, we’ll hit the beach after classes to play volleyball, take a surf lesson or swim in the cool blue water. From here we will cross into Costa Rica, traveling first to Monteverde where we will visit the Cloud Forest Reserve; home to thousands of species of plants and animals. We’ll learn about cloud forest ecology and take a guided night hike through the reserve. Nearby, we’ll visit Arenal to learn about the country’s most active volcano, before relaxing in hot springs.  Our next stop is the Guanacaste Region of Costa Rica which has a dry tropical climate with a varied landscape. White sand beaches line the coast, and to the east the Guanacaste Mountains showcase national parks and volcanoes. It’s here where we get to zip line through the trees.

Our final destination is Peru, where we’ll be introduced to local culture and history in the lively city of Cusco in the southern Andes. Our travels through the Sacred Valley lead to the breathtaking site of Machu Picchu, where we’ll hike amid a cloud forest and stone cliffs, and explore the history of Incan civilization.

Sydney

Brisbane

Students will love Brisbane’s mix of arts, culture, and nature. Enjoy classes beside the river and in the beautiful parkland of this lovely city.

Granada

Nicaragua’s coastline, culture, and natural splendor continue to inspire and amaze visitors. In beautiful Granada on the shores of Lake Nicaragua, we’ll take a boat cruise to the Isletas de Granada, an archipelago of tiny tropical islands, to enjoy beautiful and unusual flora and fauna.

Ometepe Island

Isla de Ometepe is a nature-lover’s paradise and an adventurer’s dream. We’ll hike on a volcano and learn how plants and animals have adapted in this unique ecosystem. We’ll see petroglyphs (rock carvings), howler monkeys, and unique species of birds in this place of true natural beauty.

San Juan Del Sur

In the beach town of San Juan del Sur, we’ll hit the beach after classes to play volleyball, take a surfing lesson, or swim in the cool blue water.

Monteverde

Next we will travel to Costa Rica, beginning our visit in the hills of Monteverde. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is home to thousands of species of plants and animals. We’ll learn about cloud forest ecology, participate in hands-on activities, and take a guided night hike through the reserve.

Arenal/La Fortuna

Nearby, we’ll visit and learn about the country’s most active volcano at Arenal Volcano National Park, and relax in hot springs.

Playas Del Coco

Playas del Coco lies on the North Pacific coast. Here we will enjoy some time by the ocean and soccer on the beach before saying goodbye to Costa Rica.

Cusco

We are introduced to Peruvian culture and history in lively Cusco in the southern Andes. Our travels through the Sacred Valley lead to breathtaking Machu Picchu to hike amidst a cloud forest and stone cliffs, and explore the history of Inca civilization.
